Begin in Amsterdam with a visit to the famous Keukenhof gardens, a leisurely cruise along Amserdam’s canals, and free time in a traditional Dutch village. Connect to the Anabaptist story in the Netherlands with visits to Singel Mennonite Church, Asperen, Witmarsum, and Pingjum. In Münster, see the cages where the bodies of Anabaptist leaders were once displayed—the cages which still hang from the St. Lamberti Church tower today. Relish a cruise along the majestic Rhine River. Browse Mennonite archives in the Weierhof. Learn about Pilgram Marpeck’s story while enjoying the picturesque charm of Strasbourg. Immerse yourself in the captivating landscapes of the Emmental and visit homesteads, churches, and castles connected to the Swiss Anabaptists. Ascend Schilthorn Mountain for breathtaking views and uncover the origins of the Anabaptist movement on a Zürich walking tour. April 4  |  Amsterdam
Arrive in Amsterdam today and enjoy a free day to rest before the start of your tour.

April 5  |  Amsterdam  |  B, D

This morning, take to the streets of Amsterdam on a city tour, including a visit to the Singel Mennonite Church and a leisurely ride on Amsterdam’s canals. During free time, you might make a sobering visit to the Anne Frank House, or browse the Rijksmuseum, known for its collection of Dutch Golden Age works.

April 6  |  Amsterdam  |  B, D
April is tulip season, and what better way to enjoy it than by visiting the Keukenhof? Also known as the Garden of Europe, the Keukenhof is one of the world’s largest flower gardens boasting an impressive 32 hectares of sprawling gardens. Later, visit Asperen to hear the story of Dirk Willems’ martyrdom.

April 7  |  Sneek/Leeuwarden  |  B, D
Following an early breakfast, tour the impressive Aalsmeer flower auction where 20 million flowers from around the world are traded daily! Then, visit the charming city of Haarlem. Tour the Corrie Ten Boom House, the former residence of a faithful Christian family who provided refuge for enemies of the Nazis during World War II. Later, enjoy free time at Zaanse Schans, a historic Dutch village with traditional Dutch Mennonite houses, working windmills, and artisans crafting things like wooden shoes and cheese.

Learn about the Menno Simons story as you visit his hometown of Witmarsum. Also make a stop at the hidden church at Pingjum. Travel to Münster, Germany and take a walking tour to gain greater insight into the darker times of Anabaptist history. Hear about the violent uprising of radical Anabaptists during the Münster Rebellion. Visit the city museum to see the room of the Anabaptist uprising. See the cages where the bodies of Anabaptist leaders were displayed—the cages which still hang from the St. Lamberti Church tower today.

April 9  |  Alzey/Worms  |  B, D
Begin the day in Köln, with a visit to the twin-towered Gothic cathedral. Then drive to the historic town of Boppard where you will relax and enjoy the scenery on a Rhine River cruise. This evening, visit the Weierhof: a semi-communal Mennonite village in the Palatinate, and be introduced to the Weierhof archives.

April 10  |  Strasbourg  |  B
Step into the cellar at Steinsfurt where 53 Anabaptists worshipping in secret were arrested. Climb the Steinsburg Tower for a panoramic view of farms and villages. Travel to Strasbourg where you will enjoy free time and dinner on your own.

April 11  |  Basel  |  B, D
Take a walking tour of Strasbourg to learn of Pilgram Marpeck’s influence as a local Anabaptist leader. Later, enjoy free time in the quaint town of Riquewihr, known for its narrow streets and half-timbered houses. Enjoy the company of the Goldschmidt family as they host you for dinner this evening.

Transfer to the Swiss Jura: a forest-covered ridge with many gorges which made it a favourable refuge location for Anabaptists throughout the 17th and 18th centuries. Visit the Bellelay cheese factory for lunch, and see Bellelay Abbey, where some residents converted during the Protestant Reformation. Later this afternoon, visit the Swiss Mennonite archives at Jeangisboden and the Bridge of the Anabaptists.

April 13  |  Emmental  |  B, D
Take a walking tour of Bern, a charming and renowned UNESCO World Heritage site. See the well-known clock tower, cathedral, and illustrious bear park. Reflect at the harbour, where a group of Anabaptists were exiled from Bern. After free time in Bern, visit Trachselwald Castle, a fortress once used to imprison radical Anabaptists such as Hans Haslibacher. Hear Haslibacher’s story and visit the farm where some of his descendants still live today.

April 14  |  Luzern  |  B, D
Visit Langnau Mennonite Church and Cemetary to see familiar names, and gain a better understanding of local history during a visit to the cultural museum. Browse a traditional Swiss cowbell shop and other shops as time allows. Take in the stunning views over the Emmental hills and the Alps to reach a typical Swiss homestead in Hinterhutten. Here, see a secret room that once hid Anabaptists on the most wanted list from their pursuers. Enjoy a leisurely evening in Luzern.

April 15  |  Luzern  |  B, D
Today is a day for the Alps! First, visit the Reformed church in Steffisburg, where you will learn about connections with the Amish. Transfer to Lauterbrunnen, then hop on a cog train to Mürren, then one more gondola ride up to the top of the Schilthorn. This offers a fantastic and much more impressive mountain view to the Jungfrau, Mönch and Eiger. Spend some free time in the mountains where you can enjoy the glorious views over lunch. Descend via Gimmelwald and Stechelberg where you will enjoy free time before returning to your hotel.

April 16  |  Zürich  |  B
This morning, visit a former secret worship site, the Anabaptist Cave at Bäretswil, for worship and reflection. Later, walk up the Anabaptist climb (Täuferstieg) near Schleitheim where the first Anabaptist confession was forged in 1527. Reflect at a unique monument placed in 2004 by Reformed Church leaders as an act of repentance and reconciliation between Anabaptists and their former persecutors. Visit the local museum to gain more insights. Transfer to Zürich for an individual dinner.

April 17  |  Zürich  |  B, D
This morning, visit the 800-year-old Kyburg Castle. Later, spend time in the old city of Zürich for an Anabaptist walking tour of sites related to the birth of Anabaptism in 1525. This afternoon, taste local chocolate at the Lindt Chocolate Factory and stroll through the Zürich Botanical Garden. This evening, enjoy a farewell dinner of traditional Swiss Raclette.

What do “Double Occupancy” and “Single Supplement” mean for my tour fare?
The price for a tour listed under “Double Occupancy” means the amount paid per person if you are sharing a room with another traveller, such as your spouse or a travel partner. If you prefer to have a single hotel room to yourself, the “Single Supplement” is an additional amount to cover the extra cost charged by the hotels for a single room. To determine your amount owing for the tour as a single traveller, you will need to add together the tour fare PLUS the single supplement. 

Important note: Costs could increase if you sign up less than 90 days before a tour begins
