Explore Mennonite History in St. Jacobs, Ontario
Day 1: Visit the Archives of Ontario to learn about the local history and perhaps even learn more about your family history or visit The Mennonite Story in St. Jacobs for a tour. This afternoon take a walking tour with Stoll Walking Tours– you can choose a History tour to learn more about Kitchener or Waterloo. Then settle into your hotel. For groups under 10, enjoy the hospitality of Apple Inn BnB in the small town of Wellesley (a short drive into the country) or enjoy the amenities at Hampton Inn St. Jacobs by the Farmer’s Market. Time permitting, you could take a short drive to Wellesley for a filling home-cooked meal at Schmidtsville Family Restaurant. You will be amazed at their selection of home-made pies!
Day 2: Enjoy your breakfast, then enjoy a full day of activity at the St. Jacobs Farmers Market (open Thursday and Saturday). Take a ride in the horse-drawn trolley to visit a Mennonite farm and learn more about the local Mennonites. If you have extra time, explore some of the quaint shops in downtown St. Jacobs. If possible, enjoy a live show at one of the local theatres or end the day with a hearty home cooked meal at Jack’s Family Restaurant.
Day 3: After breakfast at the hotel, visit a local sugar bush to see how maple syrup is made. If its Maple Syrup season, you may even be able to sample some fresh maple syrup. Then depart for home or extend your trip to keep exploring the local area.
