Rennie began his musical career as Principal Violist of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. From there he became an educator, training and influencing countless professional musicians, most notably as the Dean of the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto followed by more than a decade as viola instructor and orchestra conductor at the University of Ottawa. Along with his wife, pianist Jenny Regehr, he has performed, conducted and taught extensively in North America, Europe and China. He has always been deeply involved in church life in each of the cities where he has lived—in all aspects of music and worship, preaching, plus as a deacon and teacher. Since his retirement in 2017, one of his activities is volunteering on the Palliative ward of one of Winnipeg’s hospitals. He and Jenny have two grown sons and five grandchildren.
