Australian Adventure, Great Barrier Reef

Australian Adventure, Great Barrier Reef

We sailed very early in the morning to Green Island. Upon arrival at Pinnacle Reef, just 1km from Green Island, we enjoyed snorkeling and relaxation. Because of Ocean Free’s exclusive mooring, our time on the ocean was uninterrupted by crowds. The“bommies” (coral outcrops) and coral gardens, from just 1 metre under the surface, were teeming with life and made viewing easy. After a delicious lunch, we were offered trips to and from Green Island by tender. Some of us even enjoyed a small excursion in a glass-bottom boat to see the coral reef and the fish. As we sailed home the captain requested that the crew put up all three sails and with only the wind in the sails we cruised a portion of the way back to Cairns. The weather was very agreeable and we enjoyed a lovely day on the ocean.
