Hesston alumni and friends are invited to join Hesston College representatives on this lovely Alpine tour through Europe including overlap with the student International Chorale in Spain. As the group travels, leadership for this tour will be provided by Ken Rodgers, Professor of Music at Hesston, and Dallas Stutzman, Director of Alumni and Church Relations.

Friday & Saturday, May 24 & 25
We will meet in Chicago, where we will depart on an overnight flight to Barcelona. After arriving in Barcelona at the El Prat de Llobregat Airport, we will begin our exploration of this city at the spectacular Art Nouveau-style cathedral of La Sagrada Familia, designed by architect Antoni Gaudi, started in 1882 and still unfinished. Our evening will end early by Spanish standards so that we can enjoy a good night’s sleep and get over any jet-lag.

Sunday, May 26
This morning we will attend Mass at one of Barcelona’s many cathedrals. Then we will tour the beautiful tree-lined La Rambla section of the city from which Christopher Columbus set off on his exploration of the New World. Tonight we will enjoy hearing the Hesston College choir in their first concert in Spain.

Monday, May 27
This will be our last full day in Spain’s second largest city. We will visit the open-air market, the Citadel, and an art museum. You will also have some free time to explore this colorful city on your own, to send postcards home, or to enjoy a short siesta!

Tuesday, May 28
Today, as we leave Spain, we will travel to Carcassonne, a beautiful, walled city in France which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We then travel to the well-preserved medieval papal city of Avignon, where we will spend two nights.

Wednesday, May 29
After a morning visit to the Papal Palace at Avignon – seat of the Popes in the 14th century – we will drive to the Pont du Gard, the highest Roman bridge aqueduct in Europe which has three levels. We will also stroll through the quaint town of Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where we will visit the hospital where Vincent van Gogh spent the last year of his life.

Thursday, May 30
Have your camera at the ready today as we head into Switzerland, passing through beautiful vistas of the Alps. Our destination is the village of Wengen, where we will spend two nights.

Friday, May 31
All day today will be spent in the beautiful Berner Oberland, at the foot of the Jungfrau Mountain, which is the highest peak in Europe. This will be a wonderful opportunity to hike, take a train to the top of the Jungfrau, or simply relax in this beautiful Alpine village.

Saturday, June 1
Today we bid farewell to Wengen and head into Zürich to see where the Anabaptist movement began. We will trace the paths of Conrad Grebel, Felix Manz, and Georg Blaurock before settling for the night in Singen, Germany.

Sunday, June 2
This morning we set out for Salzburg, Austria. Made wealthy by salt mining, the city was an important center of religious power as the seat of the Archbishop of Salzburg, one of the most powerful church leaders in Europe. Today it is more famous as the birthplace of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and the setting for The Sound of Music.

Monday, June 3
We will spend today exploring Salzburg. You will have the opportunity to visit the impressive Hohensalzburg, the castle fortress overlooking the city, as well as spend time at the Mozart birthplace museum. Salzburg has a lively music scene - there may be the option to attend a concert during one of our evenings in Salzburg.

Tuesday, June 4
Today we will head into the German state of Bavaria. Watch for the different types of maypoles which tell the industry and cultural activities that take place in the town or city. We will spend two nights in beautiful Wasserburg on the Inn.

Wednesday June 5
Our last day in Europe will be spent in Munich, the Bavarian capital of Germany. This city has activities for every interest - from beautiful churches and gardens, to impressive technical and art museums.

Thursday, June 6
All too soon it will be time for our group to depart from Munich for the United States. We will return home with many good memories of our time together in beautiful cities and the lovely countryside.
