With tour leaders Wilmer and Janet Martin![]() For an unusual Christmas experience, TourMagination is offering a special mini-tour to the beautiful quaint village of Oberammergau in the German Alps, renown for its passion play, which is especially beautiful in December with its snow-covered trees and Christmas decorations. The Christmas Market area is all around the House of Pontius Pilate and has a supporting program featuring a live nativity scene, special music including alpine cow horns, stage plays, other musical performances, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and more. And you will enjoy the delicious food and hospitality of the Glas family at Hotel Turmwirt where you will stay for three nights. Plan now to make this part of your Christmas in 2011. Wednesday & Thursday, December 7 & 8 This Christmas tour will depart from Liberty International Airport, Newark, New Jersey, and Pearson International Airport, Toronto, on overnight flights to Munich, Germany. We will meet in the airport and together go by bus to Oberammergau. On our way, we will stop in the town of Bad Tölz to get some lunch at their Christmas market and enjoy the sweet aroma of cinnamon and hot chestnuts filling the air. Their historic market square is turned into a seasonal paradise with over 50 festively-decorated stands offering a wide variety of handmade crafts, Christmas decorations and German food. Then it’s on to Oberammergau where you will enjoy the warm hospitality at Hotel Turmwirt which is conveniently located in the town. ![]() Live Nativity You will have Friday morning to explore Oberammergau and visit its shops or just take in the scenery. Be sure to dress warm so you can enjoy being out and meeting the people in the town. At noon, we will have a delicious German dinner at Hotel Turmwirt. As a group, we will go to the official opening of the Christmas Market at 3:00 p.m. We will enjoy the warmth of the fire pits as we listen to the program and then visit the vendors’ booths and see how this market is different from Bad Tölz. Each town or city has its own version which is enjoyed by the local people and visitors alike. You will get your evening meal at the Christmas market or perhaps you want to warm up at one of the local restaurants. Saturday, December 10 This morning we will take an excursion to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle, a 19th century Gothic Revival palace on a rugged hill above the village of Hohenschwangau which was commissioned by Ludwig II of Bavaria as a retreat and as homage to Richard Wagner, German composer and conductor. This palace has appeared prominently in several movies and was the inspiration for Disneyland’s Sleeping Beauty Castle. After our noon meal again at Hotel Turmwirt, you will probably want to walk through the Christmas Market again and also see the large inside display of arts and crafts which will be open at the same time. You may want to take a horse-drawn sleigh ride before your evening meal which will again be on your own or later in the dark and see the town at night. Sunday, December 11 We must say goodbye to Oberammergau and the Glas family and travel home to our own Christmas activities and services. Plan now to join Wilmer and Janet Martin and make this part of your Christmas in 2011.
