TourMagination is pleased to announce that Ed Epp, vice-president of resource development at MEDA, will be joining our team on May 1, 2008. Ed shared with us that he “has been privileged to live and make friends in almost every part of the world. One of my favorite things is to introduce people to new countries, cultures, people and landscapes. Sharing, even in small ways, my experiences have always been a highlight for me. I can do this even more now, with TourMagination.” We look forward to the gifts Ed brings to TourMagination and you, our clients.

Scenic Rhine River Cruise

October 13-21, 2007

Cruise Tour of the Rhine River

With tour leaders Wilmer and Janet Martin

Join Wilmer and Janet Martin, owners of TourMagination, on a scenic cruise on Europe’s Rhine River. Gracing the shores of the Rhine are more medieval castles than in any other river valley in the world. The fairytale castles, combined with the breathtaking landscape of rolling carpets of terraced vineyards and old-world towns, create a dreamlike setting that has been immortalized by artists, musicians, writers and poets. The Rhine River continues to inspire those who visit, especially Germany’s upper Middle Rhine Valley, approximately 40 miles between Koblenz and Rüdesheim, as it is part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Each bend and twist of the Rhine affords new surprises to inspire you.

Saturday & Sunday, October 13 & 14

The tour departs from Newark, New Jersey, and Toronto, Ontario, on overnight flights to Zurich, Switzerland. We will be met and escorted to the River Ambassador ship by a Uniworld representative.

Monday, October 15

Riquewihr
Riquewihr
Starting from medieval Breisach, the gateway to the Black Forest, we cross the Rhine River and head for France and the Alsatian wine route, which hugs the foothills of the Vosges Mountains. Charming villages and lush vineyards line this winding scenic route. Stops in the towns of Colmar and the picturesque village of Riquewihr are included. Captain’s Welcome Dinner.

Tuesday, October 16

We will see Strasbourg in the way it has been seen through the centuries—on a canal cruise. In addition to viewing the town’s covered bridges, medieval watchtowers and a modern building that houses the European Parliament, you will see Petite France, a picturesque district that seems as if it has been lifted from the pages of a fairytale. Enjoy local entertainment onboard.

Wednesday, October 17

Our guided tour through Speyer reveals a medieval town with a grand heritage and a compact historical center. While on tour, we will visit the largest Romanesque cathedral in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a basilica that includes four towers and two domes.

Thursday, October 18

Rüdesheim has a long history dating back to Roman times, and is considered one of the most charming of the Rhine Valley ports of call. Enjoy a morning exploring the town on your own, and then in the afternoon have a visit to the picture-perfect Castle Vollrads surrounded by vineyards.

Friday, October 19

Koblentz
Koblentz

Departing early in the morning, we’ll sail along one of the most beautiful sections of the Rhine River Valley, the scenic 40 miles of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley. Historical monuments have been preserved in a quantity and density that can be found in almost no other European cultural region. With its vine-filled slopes leading to the valley, its 40 castles strung like pearls on the ledges, and the famous Lorelei Rock, the valley is the perfect example of the romantic Rhine. After arriving in Koblenz, situated on the corner at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle, we will have a walking tour of its romantic narrow streets and historical squares, picturesque alleyways and fountains in the old quarter and the 12th-century churches of St. Florin and Our Lady.

Saturday, October 20

Enjoy a guided walking tour through Cologne’s narrow streets of the Old Town, passing by tiny squares and little churches as you make your way to the Cathedral, the city’s most famous landmark and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It took 632 years for Germany’s largest cathedral to be completed and it is one of the most important gothic churches in Europe. A visit inside features the Shrine of the Three Magi and the beautiful glass windows that survived WWII. Captain’s Farewell Dinner.

Sunday, October 21

We will disembark the ship this morning and transfer to the Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam for our flight back to North America. You will take many memories home with you from this unique way of experiencing Europe.
