2010 offers you a unique opportunity–visiting Israel/Palestine and seeing the world-famous Oberammergau Passion Play in one tour. What a unique way to deepen your understanding of the Bible and see where it was lived out and then experience the passion of Christ in dramatic form! This tour planned in association with Conrad Grebel University College, Waterloo, Ontario, and led by its president, Henry Paetkau, a former pastor, and his wife Leonora, is open to all persons. This is TourMagination’s classic tour to Israel and includes so many sites and places that will expand your biblical knowledge. One special feature is visiting Nazareth Village, a re-created first-century village, which presents ”a living presentation of the life, times, and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth” to people from all over the world.
Thursday & Friday, June 24 & 25
Evening departure from Pearson International Airport, Toronto, Ontario, with arrival in Tel Aviv on Friday afternoon. We will travel on to Nazareth, Jesus’ hometown, where we will stay for two nights. Saturday, June 26 After a good night’s rest, we will be ready to visit Nazareth Village, a re-creation of a first-century village as it would have been in Jesus’ day. We will take a Parable Walk and hear Jesus’ parables in a setting where the parables may have been given. This Christian interpretive centre gives witness to Jesus Christ and makes the Bible come alive. Enjoy a first-century lunch at Nazareth Village. In the afternoon we will take a walking tour of Nazareth to sites including Mary’s Well, a mosque, the Basilica and the Sisters of Nazareth. Sunday, June 27 On Sunday, we will go to Caesarea where Peter went to meet Cornelius and baptized him and his family. We will go up Mt. Carmel and hear the story of Elijah meeting and challenging the prophets of Baal before returning to Nazareth. Then we will go to a kibbutz on the Sea of Galilee where we will stay for the next two nights. Monday, June 28 On Monday, we will take a boat ride on the Sea of Galilee and hear the story of Jesus and his disciples and their experience on this sea. Then it’s on to the Mount of Beatitudes, Capernaum where Jesus spoke in the synagogue, Bethsaida and the Church of the Loaves and Fishes. At noon, we will have a St. Peter’s Fish Lunch. ![]() Leader Henry Paetkau at Jordan River baptismal site On our way to Jerusalem, we will stop at the Jordan River where it is thought that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. We will stop in Jericho, the lowest city on earth which we remember as the city whose walls crumbled down without a blow, and see the Mount of Temptation, and a setting for the Good Samaritan story. In Jerusalem, we will stay at the Ambassador Hotel for three nights. Wednesday, June 30 Wednesday will be a full day visiting sites in Jerusalem such as the Mount of Olives, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Wailing Wall, the Upper Room and the Pool of Siloam. Thursday, July 1 This morning is our time to visit Bethlehem. Of interest will be the Church of the Nativity, and Shepherd’s Field. Then it’s on to Qumran to learn about the Dead Sea Scrolls and their discovery. Before returning to the hotel, there will be an opportunity to swim (float) in the Dead Sea. Friday, July 2 There is so much to see and do yet in Jerusalem. On Friday morning we want to walk on the Via Dolorosa and observe the Stations of the Cross. The day also includes a visit to the Israeli Museum to see the Shrine of the Book. Going to the Garden Tomb will give you a lasting memory which will come back to you in the future on Easter morning. We also want to visit with MCC workers and learn about their work in Israel. Saturday, July 3 We will depart very early this morning for Munich, Germany. After arriving in Munich, we will be met by a coach and driver and transferred to the village of Obermmergau in the beautiful Ammer Valley which hosts the world-famous passion play that is performed every ten years. ![]() Portraying the passion of Christ Sunday morning you will have free time to attend a church service, rest or explore the village of Oberammergau. Then in the afternoon and evening will be the performance of the passion of Christ, an event to be long-remembered. Over half of the citizens of Oberammergau participate in the production of the play which is being performed because of a promise made to God in 1634. Monday, July 5 It’s time to return home so we will drive to Munich to get our flight back to North America. As pilgrims, we will have sung and prayed together and will have become friends as we traveled and experienced the Bible in Israel/Palestine and witnessed the passion of Christ in dramatic form.
