Ed Epp joins TourMagination
TourMagination is pleased to announce that Ed Epp, vice-president of resource development at MEDA, will be joining our team on May 1, 2008. Ed shared with us that he “has been privileged to live and make friends in almost every part of the world. One of my favorite things is to introduce people to new countries, cultures, people and landscapes. Sharing, even in small ways, my experiences have always been a highlight for me. I can do this even more now, with TourMagination.” We look forward to the gifts Ed brings to TourMagination and you, our clients.

England & Scotland

and the Oberammergau Passion Play

July 23-August 4, 2010

An English Cottage Garden

With tour leaders Wilmer and Janet Martin

Wilmer and Janet Martin, owners of TourMagination, have led many tours to England and Scotland and they are eager to have you join them for our 2010 tour which includes the Oberammergau Passion Play in Germany at the end of the tour. Every ten years, the citizens of Oberammergau perform the passion of Christ because of a solemn vow made to God by their citizens in 1634. But first, you will enjoy the cities of England and Scotland such as London, York, Edinburgh and Glasgow, and the many smaller towns and places of interest such as Stratford-upon-Avon where we will see a Shakespearean play, the beautiful Lake District, a sheep and wool centre, a slate mine, a portion of Hadrian’s wall from Roman times, and so much more–including beautiful scenery. These countries have an interesting history which we will learn about as we travel.

Friday & Saturday, July 23 & 24

Our tour group will gather at Lester B. Pearson International Airport in Toronto and Liberty International Airport, Newark, New Jersey, for evening departures to London’s Heathrow Airport where we will land early Saturday morning. To stretch our legs after the flight, we will visit the beautiful Kew Gardens. We will travel into the city and take a double-decker bus tour to get an overview of the important sites of the city and listen to our guide telling us about London.

Sunday & Monday, July 25 & 26

This morning we will worship with the Wood Green Mennonite Church near the London Mennonite Centre. In the afternoon, we will have a guided tour of Westminster Abbey. This magnificent and world-famous building is England's most important church and has been the site of every coronation since 1066. Before we leave London on Monday, we will have a guided tour of the Tower of London. These buildings built in the 11th century have been used as a fortress, a prison, a treasury, a palace and a zoo. Then we will leave the busy city and travel through the beautiful Cotswolds area in west-central England to Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare’s birthplace.

Tuesday & Wednesday, July 27 & 28

Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Stratford-Upon-Avon
Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Stratford-Upon-Avon
We will visit the magnificent Coventry Cathedral, located next to the ruins of the old cathedral which will remind us of the devastation of war. Then, we will spend time at Warwick Castle with its various sections depicting life from the Medieval period through the Victorian period (1068-1898). In the afternoon, we will visit Anne Hathaway’s thatched-roof cottage and have some free time to explore the town. We will attend an evening performance at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. On Wednesday we will head to York where we will see England’s finest Gothic Cathedral, the York Minster, and have an interesting experience at the Jorvik Viking Centre lying beneath the busy city of York. This journey will take us back in time to the days when the Vikings inhabited this area. In Thirsk, where we will stay for the night, we will enter The World of James Herriot to learn about the life of this country vet.

Thursday & Friday, July 29 & 30

Today we will travel to the beautiful Lake District. We will visit Dove Cottage, the home of William Wordsworth from 1799-1808, and the Wordsworth Museum, to learn more about this famous English poet. There may be time to see the cemetery in Grasmere where he is buried. On Friday, we will continue further north in the Lake District to visit the Lakeland Sheep and Wool Centre to learn about sheep and wool production and see a sheep demonstration in their 300-seat arena. Then we will have the unique experience of going into the Honister Slate Mine to see how slate is mined. It will be an interesting day.

Saturday & Sunday, July 31 & August 1

John Knox House, Royal Mile in Edinburgh
John Knox House, Royal Mile in Edinburgh
On our way to Edinburgh, Scotland, we will stop at Birdoswald to see a portion of Hadrian’s Wall and an old Roman fort built sometime after 122 AD. When we arrive in Edinburgh, we will have a tour of Scotland’s capital city, the second largest city in Scotland. Our tour will include the Royal Mile, flanked on one end by the Palace of Holyroodhouse and on the other by the Edinburgh Castle. We will stay in Glasgow for two nights. Sunday’s travels take us north into the Scottish Highlands past Loch (Lake) Lomond and other spots to take in the beauty of this area. You will enjoy the fabulous scenery which is unique to Scotland.

Monday & Tuesday, August 2 & 3

This morning we will leave Glasgow and fly to Munich, Germany, where we will be met by a coach and driver and transferred to the village of Oberammergau where the world-famous Oberammergau Passion Play is performed every ten years. Tuesday morning there will be free time to sleep in, explore the town or shop. The performance of the passion play takes place in the afternoon and evening and over half the citizens of the town are involved in its production. It will be a day to be remembered.
