This 12-day tour in Holland, Belgium and Germany is an opportunity for you to enjoy the springtime beauty of these countries and includes a visit to the Aalsmeer Flower Auction and the Keukenhof Gardens. Visiting small towns and cities, you will enjoy the variety of places as we explore together. At the end of the tour, we will go to Oberammergau to take in the passion play that is performed every ten years by the villagers of Oberammergau because of a promise made to God in 1634. Thursday & Friday, May 6 & 7 The tour departs from Liberty International Airport, Newark, New Jersey, on an overnight flight to Amsterdam, The Netherlands. It will be Friday morning when we arrive in Amsterdam and are met by our coach driver. Our first stop will be at Zaanse Schans, a living museum established in 1960, where we will walk along the dike and the narrow canals, visit a windmill used to grind peanuts, and see a workshop where they make wooden shoes that are still used by many Dutch people today. Before going to our hotel, we will make a stop at the Volendam dike. Lodging near Volendam for two nights. Saturday, May 8 Today we will cross the 22-mile Afluitsdijk that has linked North Holland and Friesland since 1932. We will learn how the Dutch struggle with the sea. We will stop at the Menno Simons' monument at Witmarsum to learn about our Mennonite history in this area. Then we will continue on to the quaint city of Dokkum. You will want to walk to see the windmill this evening. Sunday, May 9 Sunday morning we will go to Giethoorn, a town of canals, to worship with the Mennonites there. Then we will go to Amsterdam and visit the famous Rijksmuseum, take a canal boat ride on Amsterdam's canal system and walk on the Kalverstraat, Amsterdam's famous shopping street. Monday, May 10 ![]() Keukenhof Gardens Tuesday, May 11 This morning in the charming little town of Willemstad, in the shape of a seven-pointed star, we will take a walking tour to see the 16th century former Stadhuis, the current town hall and the Domed Church, completed in 1607. In the afternoon, we will visit the Kinderdijk, on reclaimed polder land, one of the most spectacular Dutch scenes to be found anywhere in the country–19 windmills, most constructed around 1740. We will also visit the Delta Works, a huge network of dams and dikes built to control the sea. Wednesday, May 12 On our way to Ghent, Belgium, we will drive by one of the world’s most important ancient seaports, Antwerpen. In Ghent, the fourth largest city in Belgium, we will take a walking tour and see how Ghent has managed to preserve its medieval charm and power, while keeping up with the times. Then we will travel on to the charming city of Brugge where we will be lodged for two nights. ![]() Charming city of Brugge On Thursday the coach driver needs a break so after a guided walking tour this morning, you will have free time to relax, shop, visit a museum, take a carriage ride—whatever sounds enjoyable to you. Friday, May 14 This morning we will travel to the ancient Roman city of Trier in Germany where we will take time to see the Roman ruins and learn about its history before continuing on to Bad Friedrichshall where we will have an authentic German home-style meal and stay for the night. Saturday, May 15 On our way to Oberammergau today, we will stop in Ulm to see the cathedral and then at the Dachau Concentration Camp for a sobering experience as we contemplate this era of history. We will be lodged in Oberammergau, a beautiful village in the Ammer Valley for two nights. Sunday, May 16 This morning you will have free to time to explore Oberammergau or attend a worship service at one of the churches. The world-famous passion play which was begun in 1634 as a promise to God for delivering them from the plague will be performed this afternoon and evening with a break for dinner. Nearly half of the citizens of the town are involved in staging the performance. This will be a wonderful way to spend your Sunday, re-living the story of our Lord and Savior. Monday, May 17 It’s time to return home so we will drive to Munich to get our flight back to North America. You will have many new memories and stories to take home with you, as well as new friendships made.
