With tour leaders Edgar Stoesz and Wilmer Martin Our 2011 tour to South America includes Iguazu Falls in Brazil, Paraguay and Peru. Some tour highlights are the spectacular Iguazu Falls, visiting Mennonite colonies in the Paraguayan Chaco, experiencing Machu Picchu and the incredible rainforest in Peru with its exotic flowers and birds. Join Edgar Stoesz, former MCC South American director, and Wilmer Martin from TourMagination on this unique tour. They have led many tours together to South America and will make sure you have a wonderful and educational tour experience. Sunday & Monday, March 20 & 21 The group will gather in Miami on Sunday evening for a late evening departure for Iguazu Falls, Brazil, via Sao Paulo. Arrive Monday noon in Iguazu and take a guided walking tour of the spectacular Iguazu Falls, located on the corner of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay, and see some of the over 275 falls that make up this beautiful panorama. ![]() Kilometer 81 Hospital Tuesday morning we will travel to the Sommerfeld Colony in East Paraguay to meet with the Mennonites there to learn about their church and colony life. After lunch at Alff’s Restaurant we will visit the Hilagro Mill and tour the colony to see their hospital, churches, schools, etc. Overnight with families in their homes. Wednesday’s schedule takes us to the Kilometre 81 Leprosy Hospital to learn about their impressive work. Then it’s on to Mennonitenheim, where the Mennonites stay when they go to Asuncion. Thursday & Friday, March 24 & 25 Thursday morning we will travel to Filadelfia in the Fernheim Colony of the Chaco where we will stay for three nights. We will have an afternoon tour of Filadelfia to learn about their colony life by visiting the museum, supermarket, hospital, retirement community, schools, churches and radio station. Friday’s schedule takes us to the Menno Colony where we will visit the Trebol Milk Plant, their museum and other points of interest including the churches. ![]() Guarani mother and child On Saturday we will go to Yalve Sanga where we will learn about the Indian culture and how they and the Mennonites relate together. After enjoying the lunch prepared for us at Yalve Sanga and their musical entertainment, we will visit the Neuland Colony. We will return to Filadelfia for the night. After worshiping with the Mennonites in Filadelfia on Sunday morning, we will travel back to Mennonitenheim in Asuncion for the night. Monday & Tuesday, March 28 & 29 Now it’s time to travel to Peru. We will fly from Asuncion to Lima, Peru, where we will visit the Ten Thousand Villages program (Manos-Amigas) and learn about their ministry and programs. We will stay in Lima for the night before flying on Tuesday to Cuzco where we will visit nearby Inca ruins before going to our hotel. ![]() Rainforest photo Today we will take a three and one-half hour scenic and relaxing train ride to Machu Picchu, the “Lost City of the Incas.” You will enjoy seeing this ancient wonder of the world with a local English-speaking guide. Before we take the train back to Cuzco on Thursday afternoon, you will have time to explore the beautiful rainforest area surrounding our hotel in Machu Picchu. Do you want to go bird watching or take a walk in the forest to see the exotic flowers and orchids? Another option would be to explore the town of Machu Picchu with excellent shopping opportunities in Peruvian markets. We will take the train back to Cuzco for the night. Friday & Saturday, April 1 & 2 This morning you will have some free time in Old Cuzco before our afternoon flight to Lima. Then it will be time to say goodbye to South America and board an overnight flight to Miami. We will arrive early Saturday morning in Miami, say our goodbyes - "God be with you till we meet again," and catch our connecting flights to our homes.
